How to Install and Run QBasic in Windows 7 and above

1.     Windows version 7 and above does not run QBasic properly which leads to a lot of confusion among the students.

2.     In order to run QBasic properly we need to install a support software named DosBox.

3.     This handout will guide you through the process of installation for Dos Box and illustrate how to use it to open QBasic.

Step 1

To download DosBox follow the steps given below:

1.       Go to www.theheritageschool.org

2.       Click on downloads option.

Download QBasic by clicking the link below:

Step 2

Open the downloads folder where you will find the downloaded files.

Step 3

To install DOSBox, please follow the steps given below:

1.       Double click on the icon labeled DOSBox, a small window will appear. Click Yes.

2.       The following window will appear, click Next.

3.       Click Next.

4.       Click Install, the software will install.

5.       The program will complete installing. Click Close.

6.       An icon will appear on the desktop.

Step 4

1.       Go to download folder and right click on the QBasic file and select COPY option from the menu.

2.       Go back to the desktop and right click and select paste from the menu.

3.       The QBasic file will appear on the desktop.

Step 5

To open QBasic using DOSBox follow the steps:

1.       Left click on QBasic and hold it.

2.       Keeping the left click pressed move the mouse towards the DOSBox icon
 

3.       When the mouse is over the DOSBox icon release the left click, the following will show up.

4.       QBasic will now open through DOSBox.

5.       To enter full screen mode in QBasic press ctrl+enter on the keyboard.
